Psalm 76
Psalm 1-25 |
Seventeenth Day: Evening PrayerPsalm 89Part I Misericordias Domini 1 Your love, O LORD, for ever will I sing; *
For I am persuaded that your love is established for
ever;*
“I have made a covenant with my chosen one; *
‘I will establish your line for ever, *
The heavens bear witness to your wonders, O LORD, *
For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? *
God is much to be feared in the council of the holy ones,
*
Who is like you, LORD God of hosts? *
You rule the raging of the sea *
You have crushed Rahab of the deep with a deadly wound; *
Yours are the heavens; the earth also is yours; *
You have made the north and the south; *
You have a mighty arm; *
Righteousness and justice are the foundations of your
throne; *
Happy are the people who know the festal shout! *
They rejoice daily in your Name; *
For you are the glory of their strength, *
Truly, the LORD is our ruler; *
Psalm 89: Part II Tunc locutus es 19 You spoke once in vision and said to your faithful
people: *
I have found David my servant; *
My hand will hold him fast *
No enemy shall deceive him, *
I will crush his foes before him *
My faithfulness and love shall be with him, *
I shall make his dominion extend *
He will say to me, ‘You are my Father, *
I will make him my firstborn *
I will keep my love for him for ever, *
I will establish his line for ever *
“If his children forsake my law *
If they break my statutes *
I will punish their transgressions with a rod *
But I will not take my love from him, *
I will not break my covenant, *
Once for all I have sworn by my holiness: *
His line shall endure for ever *
It shall stand fast for evermore like the moon, *
But you have cast off and rejected your anointed; *
You have broken your covenant with your servant, *
You have breached all his walls *
All who pass by despoil him; *
You have exalted the right hand of his foes *
You have turned back the edge of his sword *
You have put an end to his splendor *
You have cut short the days of his youth *
How long will you hide yourself, O LORD?
Remember, LORD, how short life is, *
Who can live and not see death? *
Where, Lord, are your loving-kindnesses of old, *
Remember, Lord, how your servant is mocked, *
The taunts your enemies have hurled, O LORD, *
Blessed be the LORD for evermore! *
